Happy June 1st everyone!!
Although it is not officially summer yet (still 20 more days to go!), the weather today was absolutely gorgeous!! It is quite unusual to see Vancouver this beautiful early on in June, so let’s hope it stays this way! *fingers crossed*
Since we knew the forecast was looking mighty fine this weekend, my friends and I decided to hike up the Stawamus Chief near Squamish, BC! I’ve done the Chief a handful of times before but never get sick of it because the view at the top always amazes me (here’s my “Climbing the Chief – Peak 3” blog post from 2012). I also love inviting people who have never hiked it before so the experience is different every time!
This time it was Christine’s first time!! I am proud to say she hiked it without complaints! “Are we almost there?” was asked a few times but I don’t blame her, she was probably just really eager to see what it looked like at the peak!
During our pit stops, we had some snacks and water. We even had time to relive our elementary school days and do this popular pose….
The hike consisted of us climbing on rocks, crossing over logs, striding on tall steps, and pulling ourselves up using chain ropes. It definitely used every large muscle in our bodies so tomorrow I am anticipating some soreness. Despite feeling out of breath throughout the hike, it was a great feeling being in the outdoors and enjoying mother nature!
Overall, the Chief is a great hike that is definitely recommended to anyone visiting Vancouver! The scenery at the top is magnificent and the ambiance of the peak is so relaxing and peaceful. Make sure to take lots of pictures and inhale all the fresh air you can get!
Bravo to all the awesome people who came out today! Another successful hiking adventure!
